April 21, 2009

Today we worked on a Shakespeare Webquest. The students had a series of questions that they had to answer in complete sentences. The questions are as follows:

1. What year was William Shakespeare born?
2. Who did Shakespeare marry and when?
3. What is significant about the day of Shakespeare's death?
4. How many total plays did William Shakespeare write?
5. What type of play is "Romeo and Juliet?"
6. Who were six prominent people in the time of Shakespeare?

7. What was the time period called in Shakespeare's time?
8. What was the date of the opening day of the Globe Theatre in Shakespeare's time and what play was performed?
9. What is significant about the performers in Shakespeare's time?
10. Where did "Ring Around the Rosies" originate?

Then they had to do a short essay on one of the questions listed below:

1. What caused the Globe Theatre to burn? Give details to back up your answer.

2. What were some of the happenings that occurred in London in the time of William Shakespeare? Give details.

3. How would you have addressed children, royalty, and serving women in Shakespeare’s time?

4. What was the Bubonic Plague and how did it affect Shakespeare’s theatre?

5. How many children did Shakespeare have and what did one of them die of at a young age?

Give details.

The essay, being short, involved a complete paragraph that consists of a topic sentence that illuminates the question they are writing about, as well as answering the question. The paragraph needs to be a minimum of seven (7) sentences.

Students also went to the "Every 15 Minutes Assembly" today which was a very moving assembly.

Homework: Write a "short essay" (a well developed paragraph of at least seven sentences) about one of the five questions above.
