January 6, 2009

We started today with a warm-up to refresh our minds about the difference between a subject and a predicate.  From here, we finished our work on "clans" on our campus, which prepared us for the Coat-of-Arms activity.  This activity is a handout (check the Assignments box on the wall when you come in the door if you were absent) that is to be used to academically and scientifically place ourselves on our particular campus.  As the book, Speak, works with stereotypes, this gives us a chance to describe ourselves.  The Coat-of-Arms is going to be a two day process and will be hung in the classroom.  We also got our books today and the syllabus.  Some students were handed the grammar assignment that is due by 1/16/09, along with a revised paper from the Of Mice and Men Essay.  If you didn't get this assignment handed to you by me, don't worry about it.

Homework:  Read the first reading from the syllabus for homework (pages 3 - 24).
Handy tip!  There will be a quiz tomorrow from this reading!
