We started The House on Mango Street today by annotating and discussing the poem "Sonrisas," by Pat Mora.  We checked out the book from textbook room and had a discussion about the poem.  On the back of the poem, the students drew a quik sketch based on their knowledge of the poem.  They also wrote about their own worlds and how they see themselves between two worlds.  The questions specifically included, "In what way might you live in a doorway between two worlds?  What would the two 'rooms' be?  What would be happening in them?  Explain."
