Today's sentence-on-steroids was "The children played." Students bumped this up with their own phrases and clauses. From there we had four students read "And Some More" with drama. We had a good smack-down reading! We discussed the following questions: "At what point in the chapter does the mood change? Why?" We then read "The Family of Little Feet" which brought us to the discussion of "What are so dangerous about the shoes?" We discussed how this chapter brings clues for us as readers as to the age of Esperanza.

• somebody like the Vargas kids
• someone who reminds you of Alicia or Darius
• playing at being grown up
