March 25, 2009

Today we didn't do a warm-up.  Instead, we jumped right into the discussion for "Geraldo No Last Name" that was for homework last night which centered around the question of "Why was Geraldo important to Marin?"  We then took on "Edna's Ruthie" by asking what was going on with Ruthie and how do you know?  From there we went to "The Earl of Tennessee," in which we posed the question, "Who is this woman who is with Earl?"  The next book centered around the groups that presented "Sire."  As such, each group had a different question.  Fourth period's question was, "What is Esperanza's burning desire when she sees Sire with Lois?"  Fifth period's question was, "Why do you think Esperanza is afraid of Sire?"  Both questions were great starters for discussion groups.

Homework:  Personal Narrative #6 -
  • belief about luck and the future,
  • someone you met briefly who made an impression on you,
  • someone like Geraldo, Ruthie, or Earl.
